US weekly Initial Jobless Claims decline to 209K vs. 218K expected

According to the weekly data released by the US Department of Labor (DOL) on Thursday, there were 209,000 initial jobless claims for the week ending March 9. This figure marks a slight improvement from the previous week’s revised number of 210,000 (originally reported as 217,000) and surpassed market expectations of 218,000.

Additional insights from the report indicate that the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 1.2%, while the 4-week moving average decreased by 500 to reach 208,000 compared to the revised average of the previous week.

The report also noted that for the week ending March 2, the advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment was 1,811,000, reflecting an increase of 17,000 from the revised level of the previous week.

Market reaction

In the early American session, the US Dollar Index holds onto slight daily advances, hovering around the 103.00 mark.
